Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, Foreign Affairs minister
The public will certainly receive a great measure of enlightenment on intellectual property issues when on October 30, 2017, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, on the second day of COSON Week, delivers a lecture on “Intellectual Property Rights In the New Global Knowledge Economy”.
The minister who is expected to bring the Nigerian intelligentsia and other stakeholders up to speed in the matters of intellectual property through his delivery at the lecture holding at the Four Points Hotel by Sheraton, Victoria Island, will be traversing a familiar terrain as he had before his appointment as minister, been a deputy director at the Geneva-bssed World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), a United Nations body.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed will be the guest of honour at occasion expected to attract some of the best brains if the intellectual property circle and the creative industry in the country, while the chairman of the event will be the first chairman of Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) governing board and a thorough-bred scholar of intellectual property, Emeritus Professor, Egerton E. Uvieghara.
Mr. Basil Udotai a well grounded lawyer, intellectual property and cyber crime expert, and managing partener, Technology Advisor, will do a systemic break down of the subject, while a four-person panel comprising Messrs. Obi Asika, lawyer, COSON board member and cofounder, Cabal Entertainment, Mena Ajakpovi, lawyer, chairman Nigeria Bar Association Section on law, Mrs. Uche Nwuka, economist, head, creative industry section of Bank of Industry, and Mr. Emeka Mba, former DG, National Film and Video Censors Board, National Broadcasting Commission there after debate on the issues they relate to the Nigerian situation.
Chairman of the Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON), Chief Tony Okoroji, posited that never before had a group of such brilliant minds been assembled to dissect an issue which the country urgently needs to understand so as to ensure real groeconomy the economy, adding that he would personally moderate the debate.
