However, Wizkid delivered last night in Lagos.
Getting to witness an exclusive Wizkid experience in itself is enough delight and to have the singer make such an announcement, it was obvious that the crowd was in for a showdown.
The event which was slated start at 8pm eventually kicked off over three hours late, causing a few attendees to vent in unexcitement. Soon the show kicked off and the Star Boy made up for the delay by opening the show with a scintillating performance of his latest single ‘Manya’. The sight of the singer made everyone forget their complains and launch straight into ‘concert mode’.
Upon mounting the stage, the singer ordered regular ticket holders to fill up the spaces in front leaving the VIPs with no other option but to move backwards. Call that surprise number one! It is untypical to ask attendees who paid millions for a special front row experience to move backwards for regular guests. Well the man wanted a more intimate experience with the fans who are willing to go wild, sing-back and have unrestricted fun. That’s totally understandable.
Shortly after he kicked off his performance, his attention was drawn to a certain kid who he gave an opportunity to come up the podium. Unknown to Wizkid and everyone else, the little boy whose name is Ahmed is a budding rapper. He was handed the microphone to show his skill and mehn did he kill it. Ahmed wowed the crowd with his laudable freestyle skill which immediately caused Wizkid to favour him.
To the surprise of everyone, Wizkid grabbed the mic and announced that he’ll make Ahmed a member of his Star Boy imprint and make a 10 milion naira commitment to support the child’s dream.
The suprises didn’t end there. A couple of hours into the show, Wizkid offered the biggest surprise of the night by inviting his supposed arch-rival Davido to join him on stage. It was a wow moment!
Wizkid and Davido as we perceive are not the very best of friends as they have been involved in several social media exchanges this year over what can be safely termed ‘Battle for Dominance’.
They are the biggest and most celebrated African pop stars who have been pitted against each other severally by award shows, fans and pop culture commentators. The joy that comes with seeing the both of them put their differences aside to provide the fans with such a delightful stage experience is second to none. The duo delivered a performance of Davido’s hit single ‘FIA’.
Wizkid’s final surprise was bringing his 6 year old son Boluwatife to join him on stage. Tife is the first of his three sons and it was indeed a beautiful moment to behold as it is the first time the
#WizkidTheConcert was indeed a memorable experience. It was worth the wait as Wizkid went all out to ensure that his fans were treated to a good time.
It remains to be seen if and or when Wizkid will return the favour by also performing at Davido’s forthcoming concert slated for 27th of December.
