Drama! Imo APC Guber Primaries Produce Uzodinma, Nwosu As winners

• Deputy Gov Congratulates Uzodinma’s Emergence As Will Of Party Members

 

In what appeared to be a stage drama, the governorship primary elections of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State yesterday saw two candidates emerge.

They are Senator Hope Uzodinma and son in-law to Governor Rochas Okorocha, Uche Nwosu.

While the chairman of the committee drafted to supervise Imo Gubernatorial Primary Elections, Alhaji Ahmed Gulak was said to have declared Senator Uzodinma winner, the secretary of the committee, Hon. Henry Idahagbon declared Uche Nwosu winner.

According to the result signed by Gulak, Senator Hope Uzodinma polled total votes of 423,895 to defeat eight other challengers with Imo State Deputy Governor, Madumere coming at reasonable second place with 128,325 votes.

Former Secretary to Imo State Governor, Sir Eche George polled 16,597 votes to come a distant third while Chief Chuks Ololo, who is married to Governor Okorocha’s younger sister (Hon. Ogechi Ololo) took fourth position in the log with another former Secretary to Imo State Government, Sir Jude Ejiogu following closely behind in fifth position with 12,369 votes.

Air Commodore Peter Gbujie, Hon. Chima Anozie (aka Homebase), Hon. Ugwumba Uche Nwosu and Chief Chris Nlemoha scored 12,329 votes, 11,071 votes, 10,329 votes and 9,253 votes respectively.

Gulak, who was said to have returned back to Abuja hours after telling journalists that the election could not hold due to logistics problems, was further said to have since submitted the report of the electioneering exercise held on October 1st, 2018 across designated centers in the 305 electoral wards in the state to APC National Secretariat located at No.40 Blantyre Cressent, Wuse 2, Abuja,

In another development, the secretary of the electoral committee, Hon. Henry Idahagbon and seven others declared Uche Nwosu as the governorship candidate of the Party in Imo State.

Declaring the result, Hon. Henry Idahagbon who stood in as the Returning Officer for the Direct Primary election explained that the Chairman of the Committee, Alhaji Ahmed Ali Gulak had left the state before the primary election could be concluded.

He affirmed that the Wards and LGA electoral officers were duly appointed by the Panel around 3:30 pm on the October 1, 2018 and that the primary election process was concluded on the October 2, 2018, with Uche Nwosu emerging victorious with the total votes of 455,655, while his closest rival, Air Commodore Peter Gbujie placed a distant second, polling 9, 351 votes.

Senator Uzodinma was allocated with 9,159 votes, Prince Madumere got 5,067, Sir Jude Ejiogu got 2,171, while Ololo got 700 votes with George Eche, Chima Anozie and Chris Nlemoha bringing up the rear with 638, 595 and 556 votes.

Meanwhile, the deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Madumere has congratulated Senator Uzodinma on his emergence as the party’s governorship flagbearer, saying his emergence was the demonstration of the wishes of the members of APC
