Someone just released from prison after serving time ought to be happy. But it is not the case with a 25-year old man who just regained his freedom after spending 12 years behind bars. He is rather full of sad memories of how prison officials at the highest level passed him around for anal sex, and finally landing him with Human Immune Virus and the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (HIV-AIDS).
The ex-prisoner, a 25 year-old-man who lives in Mankweng, outside Polokwane, Limpopo said he was released last month after being arrested last year about this time. He said he was arrested with a charge of rape and denied bail until last week when he was released due to the case having insufficient evidence.
Said he: “I was sodomised from the first day I was arrested until my release, they raped me and exchanged me like I’m a prostitute. I was defenceless because the bosses in the prison have gangs and some wardens are on their payroll.
“They forced me the 1st day by holding me tight and putting their thing inside me. After that, I just agreed because I had lost all my dignity and felt so disgraced. The bosses would sell me to the next boss when he swaps prison or sees another one he wants. The other inmates mocked me and called me a woman. The worse thing about the whole thing is I’m now infected with HIV/AIDS. I don’t really know which of the 19 bosses that sodomised me is responsible for this”.
