Imo: Okorocha Arrested Over Violence As Aide Promises Full Reaction

Rochas Okorocha, former governor of Imo State and Senator representing Imo West Senatorial District, has been confirmed arrested by the operatives of the Imo State Police command for allegedly conducting unauthorised entry into a sealed property and unleashing of mayhem in the process.

Sen Okorocha had on Sunday unsealed one of the properties linked to him, the Royal Palm Estate located around Akachi towers, which consists of blocks of flats fully completed and furnished.

The State Government had sealed the property while Okorocha was alleged to have unsealed it in company of his loyalists.

Shortly after that, Special Adviser to governor Uzodimma on Special Duties, Hon Chinasa Nwaneri, arrived the scene with security operatives to reseal the property and a fight ensued.

Declan Emelumba, Information Commissioner, confirmed the development to via a telephone call.

Said he: “Yes, normalcy has been restored. Come to the Police command and see Okorocha. He has been arrested for unlawful entry and breakdown of law and order”.

Okorocha was alleged to have led loyalists to unseal a property linked to him, the Royal Palm Estate located around Akachi towers, which consists of blocks of flats fully completed and furnished.

The State Government had sealed the property while Okorocha was alleged to have unsealed it in company of his loyalists.

The Imo state police command also confirmed that it moved former governor of Imo state, Rochas Okorocha and Senator representing Imo West Senatorial district, to its custody to explain why he led violent breaking into the government sealed Royal palm spring estate along Akachi road in Owerri.

Orlando Ikeokwu, State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), confirmed this in Owerri, saying that the police moved to Akachi Road when they received a distress call that the Royal Palm Spring Estate sealed by the government had been violently opened by men led by Okorocha.

Said Orlando: “The command received a distress call regarding what we termed to be unrest at Royal Spring Palm Estate, and the operatives moved to the place we discovered Okorocha led some persons to the place hitherto sealed by the Imo government.

“The command calmed the situation and invited Okorocha, to come and explain why he led the violent breaking into the estate that led to damages”.

Arrested alongside Okorocha, according to findings, included some of his former political appointees, Steve Asunobi, Lasbery Anyanwu and Ijeoma Igboanusi.

Meanwhile, Sam Onwuemodo, Okorocha’s media aide issued a statement on the attack, claiming that more than 1,000 well armed thugs led by Chinasa Nwaneri, Governor Hope Uzodinma’s Special Adviser on Special Duties, attacked the former governor of the state.

Read the statement: “More than 1000 thugs, armed to teeth with knives and guns and led by Chinasa Nwaneri, governor Hope Uzodinma’s Special Adviser on Special Duties today, Sunday, Feb. 21, 2021, with the backing of armed policemen from Government House, attacked the former governor of the State and Senator representing Imo West Senatorial District, Senator Rochas Okorocha’s Convoy. They attacked and damaged all the Vehicles in his Convoy. They also attacked his personal  aides.

“Senator Okorocha was with only his personal aides when the thugs unleashed the attack.

“This is the information we can give as at now. We are still watching events as they unfol.

“Okorocha has the strongest political structure in the state and teaming followers in the State. If he had expected the attacked, he would not have moved with his personal aides alone.

“Okorocha has never been a violent man. This planned attack but unprovoked and unwarranted, has opened a new, but ugly chapter in the politics of the State.

“We shall react fully to the situation”.
