Wizkid and Burna Boy
Nigerian music acts, Burna Boy and Wizkid have bagged their first-ever Grammy Awards.
Burna Boy on Sunday won a Grammy for the Best World Music Album after beating other strong contenders, Antibalas, Bebel Gilberto, Anoushka Shankar, and Tianariwen to the top spot.
Burnaboy’s latest album ‘Twice As Tall’ which was released in August 2020, earned him the Grammy.
The album was produced by Telz, P2J, Timbaland, Leriq, Rexxie, Skread, Andre Harris, Jae5, Mike Dean, and many more.
It also featured guest appearances from Naughty by Nature, the Kenyan band Sauti Sol, Senegal’s musical titan, Youssou N’Dour, and Chris Martin of Coldplay.
Wizkid, on the other hand, landed a Grammy for the Best Music Video’ for his role in ‘Brown Skin Girl’, Beyonce’s 2019 hit song.
Reacting to his fortune, Burma Boy, the selfe-acclaimed African Giant in a video via his Instagram story said his joy knew no bounds.
He was announced as the winner at the 63rd Grammy Awards.
He further advised all young and up-coming artistes to always believe in their hustle no matter where they are coming from.
Said he: “To every African out there no matter who you are no matter what you do just believe in yourself. Always believe you can achieve it no matter where you are from.
“Look at me now Grammy awards winner. I’m so happy my whole family is here. If I can do it anyone can”.
Recall that in 2019, one of his albums was also nominated at the 2020 Grammy Awards ceremony, but Angélique Kidjo won the award.
This year’s edition of the Grammys was earlier scheduled for January but postponed amid concerns over the coronavirus pandemic.
