Olu Jacobs and wife, Joke Silva
A repeated speculation that Olu Jacobs, Nollywood veteran actor, has died, was on Tuesday dismissed as mere rumour.
The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) made this known just as it described it as rumours on social media platforms that the movie star had died after battling with an undisclosed sickness.
Yakubu, AGN’s national secretary, in a SMS, called on the public to disregard the speculations, adding that the 79-year-old actor, whom he addressed as “Uncle Olu”, was not dead but “hale and hearty.”
Write he: “Please disregard the report. Uncle Olu is alive, hale and hearty. Confirmed”.
This is not the first time that the internet would be awash with news of the actor’s rumoured death.
The AGN had in June last year, debunked similar rumours of Jacobs’ death. The guild had also warned “mischief makers” to desist from such “wickedness”.
Said AGN then: “The national president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria is in touch with the family. We use this medium to warn mischief makers and enemies of our industry to desist from this wickedness”.
In her reaction to the rumour, Joke Silva, thespian of note and Jacob’s wife, said her husband was hale and hearty.
Said Silva: “Don’t mind them, they’re just talking rubbish; don’t disturb your head. He is in the living room right now about to have Eba and Ogbono soup. Let them keep deceiving themselves. He is hale and hearty”.
The ace actor and Joke Silva, his wife, were also in the news in October last year over a claim that they endorsed an unidentified drug for treating diabetes, a claim the couple denied.
Stated Silva at the time: “Olu Jacobs and I have NOT endorsed any medication to treat diabetes. If and when we do, the public will be informed in advance on our platforms and it will be audiovisual”.
