The Nigeria Police Command in Lagos State has arrested six commercial motorcyclists, popularly called Okada riders, allegedly involved in the gruesome murder of a Sound Engineer, David Imoh, in the Lekki area of the state.

The Commissioner of Police (CP) in Lagos State, Mr. Abiodun Alabi, said this on Friday while briefing journalists on activities of the command in the month under review.

The CP said that six commercial motor-cycle operators arrested, were among 13 suspected criminals nabbed last month in the state.

He said that on May 12, 2022, at about 6.30 a.m. at Studio 24, Lekki, Lagos, an Okada rider (name withheld) had a quarrel with his two passengers over fare.

Said he: “In the heat of the argument, the Okada man and his cohorts violently attacked David Imoh, killed him, and set his remains ablaze.

“A total of six suspects have been arrested and the suspects will be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation”.

Alabi said that within the same period under review, operatives of the command also arrested three other suspects for allegedly and unlawfully being in possession of guns.

Informed Alabi: “On 23rd April 2022, a member of the public, who resides in Ibeju Lekki area of Lagos State went to receive food items sent to him by his mother from Cross River. The driver through whom the food stuffs were to be delivered, mistakenly gave him a sack that was meant to be delivered to someone else.

“When he opened the sack, he discovered seven locally-made pistols concealed inside it. He rushed to the nearest police division and handed over the arms.

“Upon receipt of the case, detectives embarked on a diligent investigation that led to the arrest of the driver, who dispatched the sack from Calabar to Lagos”.

The police boss said that during interrogation, he confessed that he had sold many guns to his customers in Lagos and later led operatives to arrest two of his alleged buyers.

Said the CP: “One locally-made shot gun bought from the driver was recovered.

“Investigation is still ongoing while efforts are on to apprehend other fleeing suspects in order to recover more of the guns he had sold to them in Lagos”.

The CP also disclosed the arrest of four other suspects, ages: 28, 19, 15 and 25, who were alleged to have been in possession of firearms.

He said that on May 10, at about 9.15 a.m, a team of detectives from the command headquarters arrested some armed robbery suspects in their hide-out situated around the Ojo area of the state and recovered guns and ammunition from them.

Said he: “Seven locally-made pistols, 68 live cartridges, cutlasses, axe, charms, four mobile phones, a tortoise and a female bag were recovered from the suspects.
