Sir Peter Obi
Sir Peter Obi, Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, on Sunday debunked claims that he had received personal jets to boost his campaign.
Condemning such reports, Obi described such viral claims as false.
Wrote Obi in a series of tweets: “Recently, several social media reports have alluded that some eminent Nigerians have donated their personal jets for my use during my campaign.
“In as much as I appreciate the expression of such hopes, I have never received any of such offer”.
The former Anambra State governor also prayed that God would bless those “eminent Nigerians”, just as he further wished that they were not distracted by such remarks.
Added Obi: “I pray that those eminent Nigerians mentioned, are not unduly distracted by such social media utterances.
“May God Almighty bless those eminent Nigerians always”.
Rumours emerged over the weekend that the former Anambra State governor got donations in terms of private jets to facilitate his campaign across the country.
The claim went viral on social media platforms, and elicited mixed reactions.
Critics of the presidential candidate had also latched onto the rumour to call him out, saying such contradicts his ideology.
But in a post on his Twitter page on Sunday, Obi said he had not received any such offer as claimed.
The former governor, further said he appreciated “such expression of hopes”.
Wrote he further: “Recently, several social media reports have alluded that some eminent Nigerians have donated their personal jets for my use during my campaign. In as much as I appreciate the expression of such hopes, I have never received any of such offer.
Obi is one of the leading candidates ahead of the 2023 presidential election alongside Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The former governor also enjoys huge popularity on social media and a massive supporters’ base known as the ‘Obidients’.
