An officer of the Nigerian Army (NA) on Saturday reportedly assaulted a female police officer in Calabar, Cross River State capital.

Reports revealed that the Mobil junction along the Murtala Mohammed highway in the state was temporarily blocked as officers of the army and police were in a ruckus.

Trouble began on Saturday morning when an army official ‘in mufti’ attacked a police officer directing traffic at a busy intersection because she had stopped his car.

In pictures seen by our reporter, the female police officer looked battered, with blood oozing out from her head.

The officer, dressed in a red t-shirt and a pair of shorts and driving a black Toyota Corolla with registration number Lagos, AGL 175 HA, was said to have dealt heavy punches on the female officer leading to serious bleeding around the eye region.

The army officer, who was with his colleagues during the altercation, had since taken to his heels.

His colleagues, who were reportedly on their way to the barracks along Ekorinim, alighted from their vehicle when they noticed their fellow officer in a dispute.

They were said to have joined in the quarrel with officers from the state housing police station before helping their colleague escape.

Another female army personnel, it was alsoreported, assaulted another female police officer for attempting to take pictures of the soldiers who arrived to save their colleague.

Efforts to reach Irene Ugbo, the state’s police spokesperson, were not successful, and she did not respond to calls and messages.
