Engr. Habu Gumel, NOC president
All presidents and delegates within the fold of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), have been paid glowing tribute for their wonderful support in re-electing Engr. Habu Gumel as president.
Gumel, the NOC just re-elected President, expressed his appreciation in a statement signed and issued by Tony Nezieanya, the newly elected Public Relations Officer of the Committee, where he disclosed they were wonderful in their resolve to offer Gumel another chance to be in the leadership of the Olympic Movement.
Said Gumel in the statement: “You were all wonderful in your resolve to offer me another opportunity at the leadership of our Olympic Movement.
“Your profound support will propel me to ensure that every single fellow is carried along. I will only ask you to help in every little way by contributing your quota to the growth and development of our NOC.
”That the Congress turned out peaceful is due to your support. for which I thank you all immensely.
“The elections are over. We need to be together from now on to lift our Movement. Let us close ranks as one indivisible Olympic Family”.
Meanwhile, he praised the retiring Secretary General of the NOC, Mr. Olabanji Oladapo, describing him as a “Worthy Nigerian Ambassador’’, to the Olympic Movement in Nigeria.
Noted Gunel: ‘’We are already missing your indelible footprints in your work”.
The statement quoted Gumel as saying that Oladapo was a loyal officer who knew how to navigate through the many challenging situations with the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Observed he: “Oladapo deserves to share in the glory for sterling contributions for honors brought in through athletics via top athletes at the World Championships—the likes of Tobi Amusan and Ese Brume, etc.
“He wrote and followed up on the requests for the scholarships through the Olympic solidarity and the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) in the eventual release of the crucial funding that he; helped to set them in the mood for the attainment of their dreams.
