Portable
Habeeb Okikiola, the controversial singer known more as Portable, has expressed loss as to why the police in Ogun State want to arrest him and resisted compliance.
However, the state Command of the Nigeria Police has also explained that Portable had severally refused to honour its invtaions, pointing out that the music act presence was required in respect of a report lodged against him.
But in now-viral footage, the singer is seen lamenting that “Yahoo boy sent the police to arrest me”.
Portable argues that the arrest is “unwarranted,” adding that he makes his money “legitimately”.
The 29-year-old artiste in the footage also referres to himself as “a federal government liability”.
Says he: “Police is our friend but these ones here are not our friends. Yahoo boy said they should come and arrest me.
“If you want to invite me to your station, you will invite me with money. Are the police and Yahoo boys now working together? I spend legitimate money and I don’t do Yahoo.
“Am I a Yahoo boy? Why did you come to my office to arrest people? What did I do? You came to my bar and everyone is running.
“Call me and I will come to your offices or my manager will come. I’m a superstar, I’m a celebrity. Show me your ID card.
“You’re talking to Federal Government liability. I work for the government, I work for APC. I work for Tinubu. We’re the ones controlling Nigeria now. I won’t take this”.
In another video however, a police officer tells the singer that a complaint is filed against him.
Says the cop: “There’s a complaint against you, there’s a petition against you. How can we scatter your bar? Are you above the law? You can’t give us orders”. show
Speaking on the arrest also, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state police spokesperson, told BBC that Portable was asked to report himself to the police on several occasions but he refused to honour the invitation.
Abimbola said the invitation was on the back of a report against him.
Said Oyeyemi: “We have also sent an invitation to him through his father like two times, yet he did not his face”.
Oyeyemi said following his refusal to honour the invitation, the police approached a court to get an arrest warrant for Portable.
“When the officers got to the place to carry out the arrest, Portable, on sighting them, stripped himself naked so as to create a scene,” the police spokesperson added.
The police spokesperson said he was invited for questioning after a report was lodged against him.
“We have also sent an invitation to him through his father like two times, yet he did not show his face,” he said.
Oyeyemi said following his refusal to honour the invitation, the police approached a court to get an arrest warrant for Portable.
Stated he: “When the officers got to the place to carry out the arrest, Portable, on sighting them, stripped himself naked so as to create a scene.
“We are going to use minimum force to arrest him. Portable is not bigger than the law”.
The singer broke into the spotlight in December 2021 when he released a street hop song titled ‘Zazoo Zeh’.
He has since then been in the public eye for several controversial reasons.
