The police in Ogun State on Friday arrested controversial music act, Portable, over an alleged assault.

The ‘Zazoo Zeh’ crooner was following the expiration of the 72-hour ultimatum given to him to turn himself in.

Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state police spokesperson, said the singer was currently detained at the state headquarters of the police in Eleweran, Abeokuta.

Said the police spokesperson: “Yes. He was arrested today. Just this evening”.

On Wednesday, Portable was given a three-day ultimatum to report himself to the police, after the singer resisted attempts by the police to arrest him, even as he also referred to himself as “a federal government liability”.

Oyeyemi had earlier disclosed that if the controversial singer, born Habeeb Okikiola, failed to surrender himself, the police would “go after him”.

Said Oyeyemi: “Yes but his father has promised to produce him on or before Friday. So, we are expecting him to show up and if he doesn’t come, we are going after him.

“Only then will he know that we have the wherewithal to get him because he is not bigger than the law”.

The state police spokesperson said the arrest warrant became necessary after Portable refused to honour the police invitation on several occasions.

The singer was accused of engaging in assault and unruly behaviour.

He would remain in police custody till Monday when he may be arraigned in court.
