‘Igbophobia’: Ohaneze To Write Buhari, NASS Over Attacks In Lagos

Petition against Igbo profiling in Lagos State since the commencement of the 2023 general elections, is to be sent to President Muhammadu Buhari by Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide.

The Council of Elders, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, made the resolution on Wednesday, saying that it would send a protest letter to the National Assembly and other relevant agencies to communicate its feelings over the attacks on Igbos in Lagos.

Ohanaeze revealed this in a communique issued after the Elders in Council Virtual Meeting held in Enugu and signed by Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Council of Elders chairman, Okey Emuchay, Secretary-General, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, and others.

The group said it would formally petition Buhari to express its disappointment and sadness over the unfortunate development.

Ohanaeze noted that a high-powered Igbo delegation would be sent to Lagos to meet with some Leaders of the state with a view to establishing a lasting peaceful and cordial relationship between the Igbo and the Yoruba in Lagos.

Said the group: “Amongst other terms of reference, the report must indicate: the number of Igbos killed, the number of Igbos injured and hospitalised, number of Igbos permanently incapacitated.

“The report shall include the comprehensive report of Igbo assets and property destroyed, including the burning of the market.

“These unpatriotic Nigerians destroyed properties belonging to the Igbo. For example, a whole market was burnt. The information available to us reveal that they are still threatening the lives of Igbos and their property in Lagos State”.

During the governorship election in March, some thugs believed to be loyal to the All Progressives Congress (APC), issued warnings to Igbos against coming out to cast their votes.

The attacks followed the victory of Mr Peter Obi, Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, in Lagos.
