Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Information and Culture minister

The recent allegations by Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture, against Sir Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has attracted to him the wrath of some Youths in the South-East.

Acting under the aegis of the Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), the group in a statement, issued by Goodluck Ibem, its president-general, held that Obi and Yusufu Datti-Ahmed, his running mate, were innocent of the allegations.

The Minister, who addressed the media on Tuesday in Washington DC, accused the LP candidate and his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, of inciting violence over the outcome of the February 25 poll, saying it was treasonable.

The coalition in its reaction, described the allegations as hate speech, stressing that the Minister wanted to cause a crisis in the country.

Said COSEYL: “It is laughable that a man of Lai Mohammed’s standing, who is supposed to portray the good image of the Nigerian state outside the nation, is de-marketing his own country just for his own selfish political benefits and that of his political party the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Lai Mohammed has committed an international crime in Washington DC and should be arrested immediately and properly investigated and probed.

“A situation where an image maker of a nation like Nigeria says going to court to seek redress is a treasonable offense and an insurrection speaks volumes of what Nigerians are passing through in Nigeria”.
