Sir Peter Obi, Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general polls, visited Plateau State on the occasion of his 62nd birthday where he made a donation of N5 million to an Internally Displaced People (IDP) camp.

Obi, made this known in a statement on his social media handles on Wednesday, saying he visited the state on the occasion of his 62nd birthday to commiserate with the government over the killing of over 300 people in the area.

Said Obi: “In line with my earlier humble request for friends and well-wishers to spread the love today by visiting hospitals, schools and care homes to mark my 62nd birthday, I visited Plateau State to commiserate with the Governor and the people over the recent widespread unfortunate killings in the State, which are unacceptable.

“I visited Mangu Local Govt. Area, where over 300 people, including women and children, have been killed. I commiserated and condoled with them over the several attacks on them and the killings of their loved ones.

“I was at Bungha Pilot School in Mangu, which is the biggest IDP Camp in the State, occupied by about 60 communities. I made token support of N5 million with some bags of rice and also reassured them of our love and care.

“I equally explained to them that we are all in this together and that as long as we have some Nigerians living in IDP Camps, every Nigerian is living in IDP Camp”.

Obi commended Caleb Mutfwang, Plateau State, governor, for his warm reception and kind comments.

Disclosed he: “I thanked him, especially for the great efforts he has made so far concerning the killings and terror attacks in the State, and for ensuring that the IDPs are well cared for. I commiserated with him over the killings in the State and encouraged him to continue to deliver good governance to the people.

“I also thanked the traditional ruler Mishkaham Mwaghavul, HRH John Putmang Hirse, for the hospitality, and assured the Mangu people that in the New Nigeria, their security and that of every Nigerian will be prioritised”.
