AMVCA: Firm Invests N9 Billion In Award Events Over A Decade

MultiChoice Nigeria, organiser of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Award (AMVCA), and the Award proper, over the course of nine editions, made a “socio-economic impact on Africa’s film sector”, investing N9 billion in the award events, training, and logistics since 2013.

The entertainment firm made this disclosure while giving a breakdown of the contributions the AMVCA annual ceremony had had on Africa’s film sector in the past decade in a recently launched impact report.

The company, in the impact report, stated that the AMVCA had issued 267 awards and created over 27,000 jobs.

The report also shed light on the award event’s accomplishments, advancements, and socio-economic contributions.

Read the report in part: “The investments have yielded the following benefits for the film sector: improved film standards, international recognition and promotion, exposure and distribution, socio-economic impact, talent development, industry networking and collaboration.

“61.9 percent of film sector players say that AMVCA has contributed to the growth of the African film sector.

“76.1 percent of African film sector players say that AMVCA has contributed to the international recognition of African films”.

The ninth edition of the AMVCA was held in May. The event which recognises outstanding performances in television, film, and entertainment, was hosted by Zozibini Tunzi and IK Osakioduwa.

Bimbo Ademoye won the award for ‘Best Actress in a Comedy Drama, Movie, or TV Series’.

Tobi Bakre was named the ‘Best Actor in a Drama’ while Osas Ighodaro snagged ‘Best Actress in a Drama’.

Broda Shaggi for his role in ‘Inside Life’, also won ‘Best Actor in a Comedy Drama, Movie, or TV Series’.
