Matthew 5:1-12.
The idea that Jesus came to establish a new principle of life is not hidden. Right from the beginning He made it plain by the things He began to do. He wasted no time in establishing the order that one should follow Him by His word, not necessarily by “our own word”.
Hear Him, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of Heaven.
Blessed are the meek,
For they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled”.
Matthew 5:3-6.
When you read the above passage, you will understand that Jesus was not talking about everyday happenings. He was not talking about the things that always occurred. Certainly not! He was indeed talking of those things that do usually happen internally, for which He is teaching that there abound solutions. Come to think of it, how can one imagine that those who hunger and thirst for righteousness shall be those who can be fully filled? But that is why He came into the world, to establish that rule.
“Blessed are the merciful,
For they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
For they shall be called sons of God “
Matthew 5:7-9.
By the time you fully understand God, you will not be surprised why He insisted on these principles. Yes, everywhere around is the sight of oppression, necessitated by the desire of man to gain the whole word, at the expense of nothing. Man wants to see that anything and everything that is good comes to him. He seems not to be mindful that his stay on this side of eternity – whether he believes it or not – is simply time bound. One day is coming when the Almighty will bring everything to pass through judgement. Hebrews 9:27.
“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’sake,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake.
Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, and for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you”. Matthew 5:10-12.
The persecution of those who are doing good, the reviling of those who are well- behaved, and the unpopularity of those who are graciously inclined to differ with what is said, simply abound. They are not known to be offensive, they are not known to be unacceptable and they are not known to be somehow, false, yet, they are not received because their ways of life or thinking are not acceptable before the people. That is what the world has become; and by the time you are through with what is happening around you , you will see that everything is working against you.
But the word of God is a good standard bearer. Wherever you go with it , it gives you the same answer. Whatever happens, it gives you the same result. So when people sideline the word of God, they are simply sidelining themselves from the truth, which sets men and women free from every liability.
The Bible is littered with several instances of men and women who had chosen to sideline themselves from the word of God. Several instances of men who were not ready to change and align with Gods set principles. Will you be like one of them? I wish and pray not.
