An event that may be unusual for an Airport, on Saturday happened at the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Lagos, when it hosted its first-ever wedding in the open space of its ticketing hall.

The event was held at the MMA’s terminal 2 as a part of a novel initiative dubbed “My Airport Wedding”.

A couple, Alli Olamide Miracle and Agboola Abiodun Qudus, exchanged their vows in the backdrop of departing and arriving flights.

Present at the event were members of the bride and groom’s families, friends, and travelling observers who opted to share in the moment.

Ajoke Yinka-Olawuyi, head of corporate communications at Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), the company operating the initiative, emphasised that the event was intended as an interplay between travel, entertainment, and aviation industries.

Travelers and other airport users who stumbled on the event were astonished as the couple took wedding vows in the aviation facility.

The barricaded section of the departure area, for the wedding, accommodated only about 50 guests, it was observed.

Mr Kola Bamigboye, the Chief Operating Officer, BASL, added that the wedding, which was first of its kind at the airport, was to tell the world that MMA2 was more than a terminal.

He expressed hope that with the successful wedding ceremony, more people would like to wed at airports.

Said he: “We like to bring people together. Its either you are travelling through our terminal or you are coming here to solidify your love”.

Mrs. Monica Oguta, Head of Aviation Security for BASL, said that the wedding was an opportunity to create value for airport terminals.

Replied Oguta when asked if the couple was airport staff: They are just Nigerians who felt the idea is good.

“I started nursing the idea of an airport wedding some years back and when the opportunity came, we seized it”.

The wedding was officiated by Ms. Oluwabukunmi Aminu, a vow coordinator.

Mrs Abigail Babatunde, a passenger, said she had never witnessed such a wedding before.

The couple wwa given free flight tickets by Value Jet Airline.
