A Naval rating and seven other persons were on Monday night abducted by gunmen in Ibaka, Mbo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
The incident, it was learnt, happened at Classic Point Hotel, Ibaka.
This came a few days after the driver and 18 passengers of an AKTC bus, leaving Uyo for Port Harcourt, Rivers State, were abducted and their whereabouts still remain unknown.
Timfon John, Police Public Relations Officer, Akwa Ibom State Command, who confirmed the abduction of the eight victims, said Commissioner of Police Waheed Ayilara, had led a team of security personnel to the community, expressing hope that the victims would be rescued safely and the offenders brought to book.
Said she: “When the police got the information, Commissioner of Police Waheed Ayilara led a team of security personnel to the community.
“I can assure you that with that visit by the CP and other strategic approaches, normalcy will return”.
However, the Naval authorities in Akwa Ibom have yet to speak on the development.
