The 2024 international conference on girl child education is to be hosted by the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) from October 10 to 11.
The conference, titled ‘Girl Child Empowerment Through Quality Education’, will take place at the Banquet Hall of the presidential villa in Abuja.
Ebenezer Leo, head of the education department at the NGF, said the conference highlighted the forum’s commitment to addressing the challenges faced by girls in Nigeria.
Leo said that the forum would launch the Girl-Child Education Volunteers’ Advocates (GICEVA) initiative.
This platform aims to involve volunteers in promoting girl child education throughout Nigeria.
The conference will also introduce ambassadors who will promote girl child education among National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members in Nigeria.
Read the statement: “Another important aspect of the conference is the signing of a declaration by the State commissioners of education affirming their commitment to support and fund girl child education in Nigeria up to the senior secondary school level.
“This declaration will be developed in collaboration with organisations dedicated to promoting girls’ education globally”.
The event will feature panel discussions with experts, educators, and activists on the barriers to girl child education and the strategies needed to overcome them.
Said Leo: “The event will conclude with a significant signing ceremony, where State education commissioners will endorse the declaration on education financing, thereby reinforcing their dedication to improving girl child education in Nigeria”.
He added that the conference aimed for substantial outcomes.
Added he:;“The signing of the declaration will solidify the government’s commitment to supporting and funding girl child education initiatives”.
