Professor Tom Adaba, erstwhile Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), has died.

Reports intimated that the respected broadcaster died early on Saturday, February 22, 2025, in Abuja. A close family friend confirmed the news, stating that “It’s true Oga is gone”.

Adaba, born on July 2, 1941, had been unwell for some time. He was hospitalised after experiencing difficulty eating. Although, his condition initially improved, he later suffered a relapse and required a blood transfusion.

Revealed the source: “Around 5:00 this morning, I got a call that he has gone to be with the Lord”.

Chief Adinoyi Joe Anivasa JP, Secretary of the Egbira Elders Forum in Abuja, also confirmed his death, expressing sorrow over the loss.

Stated he: “I feel sad to inform you that our elder and leader, Prof. Tom A. Adaba, just answered the call of nature by giving up his ghost to the Lord this morning”.

Anivasa mentioned that details about his burial arrangements would be shared later.

Added he: “We thank God for his life. May God have mercy on his shortcomings and grant his soul eternal peaceful rest in His Heavenly Kingdom, Amen”.

Professor Adaba was a distinguished figure in broadcasting and made history as the first Nigerian to be honored as President of the African Council for Communication Education between 1988 and 1992.
