Police Officer Seizes Hard Drugs From Suspect, Suffers Mob Attack In Jos

A mob attack on a police officer has left him with serious injuries. The officer was said to be transporting hard drugs seized from a suspect to the station in Jos North LGA of Plateau State when he was ambushed and pummelled.

Zagazola Makama, the counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, said the incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday. 

Two police officers from ‘C’ Division reported Makama, had relied on credible intelligence to apprehend a suspect found in possession of hard drugs around Polo roundabout.

Quoted sources by Makama: “The suspect fled upon sighting the officers, abandoning a bag containing hard drugs and other substances suspected to be Indian hemp. He escaped into the Jenta Adamu area of Jos North LGA”.

The publication said sources confirmed that the suspect returned shortly after with a group of motorcycle riders to attack the officers, who were already on their way to the station with the recovered exhibits. 

During the assault, Ikale Muhammed, one of the officers who is an inspector, sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Bingham University Teaching Hospital. 

Said the publication: “A Bajaj Boxer motorcycle was recovered at the scene”. 

Police reinforcements were said to have been deployed to the area and efforts ongoing to track down and apprehend the attackers.
