Mr. Adulphus Wabara.
Senator Adolphus Wabara, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT), has got expelled by the Abia State chapter of the party, over alleged anti-party activities.
Following his expulsion, the State party executives called on the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) to appoint an acting BoT chairman, stating that Wabara no longer had any rights or privileges within the party, as outlined in the party’s constitution.
Wabara had earlier been suspended on February 11, 2025, after endorsing Labour Party Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, for a second term. To address the issue, the party set up a disciplinary committee led by Hon. Chukwudi Apugo as chairman and Hon. Solomon Akpulonu as secretary.
During a press briefing at the PDP State Secretariat, the State chairman, Elder Amah Abraham, explained that Wabara failed to appear before the disciplinary committee despite multiple invitations to defend himself against the allegations.
Said he: “The State working committee of the PDP convened an emergency meeting on Tuesday, 25th February, 2025, after receiving the report of the disciplinary committee.
“After a thorough review of the findings and recommendations, regarding the expulsion of Senator Adolphus Wabara, the State working committee approved the recommendations. Senator Adolphus Wabara is hereby expelled from the PDP.
“In line with Article 57(3) and 59(1) of the Constitution of the PDP, which stipulates that an expelled member cannot exercise any right or privilege within the party, the State working committee recommends the immediate appointment of an acting chairman of the Board of Trustees by the National Working Committee”.
Abraham also pointed out that Wabara violated the party’s constitutional rule by taking legal action against the PDP before exhausting all internal resolution mechanisms.
Addressing concerns about whether the State party executive had the authority to suspend and expel a former Senate President, Abraham clarified that any party member who commits an offense can face suspension and expulsion if found guilty.
