Forty (40) more bodies were buried on Friday apart from the 12 earlier commited to earth on Thursday, making a total of 52 deaths, Mr. Farmasum Fuddang, Chairman of Bokkos Cultural Development Council (BCDC), Vanguard, has said.
Rampaging Fulani bandits attacked Bokkos community on Wednesday night and killed innocent residents in an unprovoked attack.
Security operatives had said, if not for swift intervention, the casualties would have been more.
Villages affected were Mangor Tamiso, Daffo, Manguna (Tagai), Hurti and Tadai communities of Bokkos Local Government Area of the State.
Said Fuddang: “51 persons were given a mass burial on Thursday with another five persons burnt to ashes in Hurti village”.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang had visited the area, assuring residents that perpetrators would be brought to book.
Responding to the killings also, the joint Military Task Force in the State, said it had carried out a clearance operation and had foiled militia attacks on communities of Tamiso, Daffo, Manguna, Taddai and Hurti in Bokkos.
The task force said during the operation troops made contact, overwhelmed and forced the attackers to abandon one AK-47 rifle and six motorcycles.
Said Major Samson Zhakom, Spokesman of the task force, in a statement: “Troops exploited the general area and observed traces of blood along the withdrawal route of the criminals.
“Troops engaged the criminals with a high volume of fire, forcing them to withdraw in disarray. The area was combed by troops and one locally fabricated pistol, six rounds of 9mm and four motorcycles were recovered. Troops are currently dominating the general area to neutralise the fleeing criminals”.
