President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Department of State Services (DSS) were on Tuesday urged to investigate a recent violent attack on the Lagos State secretariat of the Labour Party (LP).
Dayo Ekong, Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the LP made this call while speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, just as he condemned the incident, calling it a “heinous crime against the state”.
The assault, she said, happened on Monday while party officials were away in Abuja attending the Labour Party’s National Executive Council meeting.
Ekong alleged that the attack was led by one Rasheed Bamishe, who reportedly stormed the party office at 59 Oduduwa Way, GRA Ikeja, along with a group of armed thugs.
She appealed directly to President Tinubu, the Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, and the Director of State Security Service to act swiftly and address the situation.
Ekong further claimed that some powerful members within the party were behind the invasion.
Stated she: “These individuals will be revealed in due course. There is absolutely no excuse for this cruel and calculated attack on our party”.
She revealed that the attackers came armed with dangerous weapons, charms, and fetish items. During the invasion, they reportedly vandalised the offices, destroyed property, and carted away cash and valuables, including both local and foreign currencies worth hundreds of millions of Naira.
In addition to the material losses, Ekong said staff members present during the attack were assaulted and badly injured. Five of them are currently receiving medical care.
She described the incident as a case of “criminal vandalism and armed robbery masquerading as politics”, making it clear that such actions would not go unchallenged.
Ekong concluded by stating that the Lagos Labour Party would explore all legal options to ensure that those responsible, regardless of their status, were held accountable.
